DAY 706
Public Enemy - Rebel Without a Pause
From "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back"
Year: 1988

This classic hip hop track perfectly matched my mood earlier today. That is how agitated I was at the time. Without going into too much detail, I'll say that my stress was triggered by financial difficulties. It's only a few hours later now, and the situtation isn't looking quite as bleak. 'Rebel Without a Pause' helped to get the anger out of my system.
In the late 80's I didn't care for PE's sound at all, because I found it to be too abrasive. I hadn't heard anything remotely like it at the time. That's one of the things I started to appreciate about 'It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold us Back' after I gave it another chance. Sometimes it pays to go back and listen when you're in a different mindset.
It's amazing that Chuck D's voice is so complimentary to the chaotic sounds of the beat. His vocals cut through the noise in a way that few voices can.
This is one of the most powerful cuts from one of the most astoundingly great hip hop albums of all time.
