DAY 700
Glenn and Rachael - Ties of Blood and Water
Entry from Nur Ein III
Year: 2008

Seven is a particularly special number for Rachael. There are quite a few sevens to be found in her birthdate (born in '77), there are 7 letters in her first name and our legal last name too!
As a late present to each other for our 13th anniversary we decided to get a matching tattoo. It's my first, and as you might guess, it's her seventh. So, what design did we choose to celebrate such a momentous occasion?
Ever played Ms. Pac-Man?
If you've ever gotten past the first couple of stages of the game you see a brief intermission called "They Meet". Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man are getting away from a couple of ghosts. They both turn a corner at the same time, and the ghosts bump into one another as a result of this evasive maneuver. Then they continue moving up the screen for a bit before turning to face one another. Then a pink heart appears above them. It is literally a video game version of love at first sight.
One important detail: Ms. Pac-Man normally has a blue pixel for her eye, but my wife's eyes are GREEN. So, our Ms. Pac-Man has a green dot in that spot. :)
So, I'm picking one of our songs from Nur Ein III today. It became one of my favorite songs of the ones we submitted for the competition that year, which is saying something because We didn't really like how it was coming out as we were writing it. We were certain that it was going to be a pretty weak entry that was going to get us booted out. We kept working on it, seeing if we could salvage it into a suitable entry.
At the time I had recently recorded a cover of "Easy Lover" by Phillip Bailey and Phil Collins. In attempting to make that song sound more full like the original, I added a few more instrument overdubs than I normally would. I doubt "Ties" would have come out the way it did if I hadn't taken the time to record "Easy Lover". The songs don't really sound anything like one another, but the way I approached the recordings of both songs was very similar.
