Most musician bios tend to straight up
piss me off. They're normally written to make a band or artist sound like they're the greatest thing since the Beatles.
Words about how awesome you are will not make me want to listen to you. In fact, an overly glowing bio will likely ENSURE that I ignore the music attached to it. The music should speak for itself. If I think you're amazing, I'll probably communicate that to you at some point. You might even eventually find one of your songs listed in
my 10,000 favorite songs blog.
Of course, it does help when people actually LISTEN, and a little bit of background information about an artist sometimes helps me to appreciate them more...
Well, crap.
So, I suppose a bio can be handy if it's written properly. This one won't be, but it probably won't be like any other one you have read to date.
I should probably type in some information here. I would say "tell you a bit more about myself", but I'm not really speaking here. Honestly, I'm listening to Ellis Paul, pouring my thoughts into a computer in my living room, and I am wearing pajama pants. These particular ones do not have Domo-Kun printed all over them. They are comfy, however.
A little TOO much information, perhaps? Yeah. Probably.
Me? I don't make the best music you've ever heard, but it's probably not the worst you've heard either. With any luck you will like
some of the songs you hear if you decide to listen. I do attempt to draw from a wide variety of musical influences, but hopefully I won't sound too much like any one of them.
If you ARE listening, thank you! There are literally
millions of other songs you could be listening to instead, and that's without throwing in the countless other activities you could be doing with your time. It's a humbling thing to consider, really. As musicians we're competing with every piece of recorded music that's available out there, whether we're trying to or not.
Competition is not the primary force that drives me to create, but I have found that websites like
songfight.org,
FAWM and
album-a-day can be great motivators. I have composed a good number of songs as a direct result of those websites, and others like them.
I love music. I love to make music, and I love to listen to it. Some of my recordings turn out better than others, and hopefully I'm improving with time. I make songs in my basement, and I share them online. You can download what you like for free at this link:
http://www.glenncase.com/all.htmlAs a general rule, the older songs tend to be crappier in my opinion. I guess you could say that I'm showcasing some of my failures alongside my prouder moments. At this time, I'm happiest with
"Waterfall of Consciousness" and
"Nur Ein". They would be great places to start if you're not already familiar with my material as you read these words.
The only music I have for sale at the moment is a soundtrack available through
PBC Productions. I was fortunate enough to work with PBC on a web-sitcom called
'The New Adventures of Captain S'. I created original music for the end credits of each episode, and I also came up with some of the background music you hear within the episodes.
I might eventually start to sell
some other music, but I want the songs to sound amazing if people are going to spend their money on it. That's going to take some time. It already has taken time. To date, I have attempted to make a purchasable album several times, and I have always scrapped the project. I promise nothing, but I'm hoping that 2009 will be the year where I break that habit. We'll see.
I'm notorious for coming up with fun ideas that either never happen, or don't materialize until years later.
Reasons you might already recognize me:- I have occasionally contributed to
SongFight.org since 2003.
- Made music for
'The New Adventures of Captain S'- I am the former and current bass player for
Buffalo Jones- I was in a band called
The Half Racks for a number of years.
- I was 1/5 of
The Grammar Club for "Bremelanotide", but I resigned from the group shortly after completion of the EP. I do wish my former band-mates well, and I'm sure they will continue to do great things in that project, and with their other projects for that matter.
- Created the theme song for
'Still Gaming'- Created the background music for
"Hard News" on ScrewAttack.com- This one deserves a short story. I had the pleasure of being
MC Frontalot's bass player at the first
Penny Arcade Expo as a result of my songfight connections. Front didn't have a band back then, but he was asked to perform. Our rag-tag group of songfight backing musicians had two rehearsals, and I think the show went well enough under the circumstances. He came back the next year with an actual band, and they were at least 10 times better. His shows have gotten exponentially awesome with time, and now he's pretty much a Jedi bad-ass. Speaking of Star Wars...
- I have a few mc chris remixes out there, most notably a version of Fett's Vette called "The Imperial Mix". mc used the beat (with my permission) on one of his tours
