DAY 624
Steely Dan - Pearl of the Quarter
From "Countdown to Ecstacy"

For the second night in a row I've picked a song with a fairly unique subject. It's that age old story of 'Boy falls in love with a prostitute, and sets himself up for having his heart broken.'
Yeah, it's not exactly a common topic, but it works very well here.
I picked up the "Citizen Steely Dan" box set, and it has been great to immerse myself in these songs again. Steely Dan's lyrics are often devilishly clever, and the true intent behind some of the words can be difficult to decipher at times. The fantastic chord structures and arrangements alone would have me hooked, but there's also the hope that I might catch one more sly reference that I've been overlooking for years.
The songs in this box set continue to sound fresh decades after they were recorded.
She loved the million dollar words I say
She loved the candy and the flowers that I bought her
She said she loved me and was on her way
Singing voulez vous
And if you hear from my Louise
Won't you tell her I love her so
Please make it clear
When her day is done
She got a place to go
ROCK!
