Day 300 - The Replacements - Alex Chilton

For those who don't know, I am listing my 10,000 favorite songs in this blog. This will take just under 30 years from start to completion. This blog can be found at Blogger, Livejournal, and Myspace for your convenience.

DAY 300
The Replacements - "Alex Chilton"
From "Pleased to Meet Me"

I am SO glad that I became interested in Elvis Costello and the Replacements at the point in my life when I did. Aaron was the name of my boss at the time, and I asked him what he knew about Elvis Costello. He responded by taking me out to his truck in the parking lot, and handing me a bunch of CDs to take home and listen to. One of those discs was the Replacements compilation, "All For Nothing/Nothing For All".

Aaron was letting me borrow albums from artists that would become some of my biggest musical influences. I would even get the chance to meet Paul Westerberg years later, but I didn't have a clue who he was at the time.

"Alex Chilton" was the song that particularly caught my attention. What a fantastic high-energy song with a ridiculously catchy bassline. When Paul sings "I'm in love with that song", I was thinking about how much I was in love with the song I was listening to.

The music video for "Alex Chilton" could be classified as the anti-music video, much like the clip that was released for "Bastards of Young". Normally, I would have a YouTube clip of the video to share with you, but it appears that it's been removed from the site. That is a pity, because it is a hell of a rocking song that you MUST HEAR if you love Rock and Roll and haven't heard it already.

What I CAN do, is give you a link to a cover version of the song that I made for a compilation that came out today! The project is called Nerdcore Undercover and Z asked me to record my version of this classic track. I am proud to have my interpretation there alongside cover songs from some very talented folks.

Check it out at this link.

ROCK!
